Artist’s Statement
If there is a statement that I would feel qualified to make, it is that one is never too old to discover one’s passion. As a public high school speech and English teacher for the last 33 years, I knew I had a love for teaching and helping young adults understand the importance of communication, but there was something missing; something I wasn’t doing for myself.
As retirement became closer than just a distant light at the end of a long tunnel, I began speaking at length with artist friends, exploring galleries, reading, watching, learning, and painting (something I hadn't done since my 4th grade art teacher said that she hoped I would find something else to do with my life). The more I painted, the more I realized that this was what I had been missing. This is my passion.
My art is primarily abstract, with nature as a large influence on the colors I use. I do enjoy experimenting with various surfaces, color and texture and have done several commissioned pieces based on a client’s specific needs.
It has been said that the journey is far better than the destination. I do hope you enjoy viewing the journey with me.
